Refinery Status Following Earthquakes on 08 April 2017
Background/Description of the Disclosure
At around 1507H on 08 April 2017, the province of Batangas was hit by four (4) strong earthquakes that caused a power outage at Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corporation’s (“SHLPH”) Tabangao Refinery. A controlled shutdown was instituted in line with operating protocols in order to ensure the safety of personnel and assess any damage potentially caused by the earthquakes.
All personnel in the refinery have been accounted for and there were no injuries sustained as a result of the earthquakes and aftershocks. Thorough equipment inspections are being carried out and all necessary repairs and process safety confirmation are being undertaken.
SHLPH expects its Refinery to start-up by 11 April 2017 and target regular production of products by 14 April 2017.
SHLPH is exerting all efforts to ensure continued reliable supply of quality fuels to its retail stations and customers, including monitoring of supply situation to avoid possible supply disruption to its main markets, including Metro Manila, during the interim period prior to regular production.
SHLPH remains committed to the safe and reliable operation of its facilities, continuous supply of quality fuels, and no harm to people.
