Lighterage Service Agreement with Palau Sea & Air Transport Agency.
Background/Description of the Disclosure
On 15 May 2017, Harbor Star and Palau Sea & Air Transport Agency (PSATA), a Palauan company, finalized the Agreement for Harbor Star to provide the exclusive logistics requirements of PSATA to transport construction equipment and materials from the Philippines to Palau, Micronesia and the Marshal Islands. Harbor Star projects that the 3 – year lighterage service contract will result in at least eight (8) additional voyages per year for Harbor Star’s internationally-classed tug and barge tandems. The equipment and materials will be used for projects identified in the Federated States of Micronesia Infrastructure Development Plan as well as for the construction of structures in support of the Territory’s tourism industry. PSATA is currently the only company authorized by the Micronesia Shipping Commission to transport special cargo within Micronesia and the Marshall Islands. The first shipment under the said Agreement is scheduled at the end of May 2017. Last 22 April 2017, Harbor Star’s MT Procyon and Barge Lynx completed the delivery of 8,000 metric tons of aggregates to Yap Island, a part of the Federated of States of Micronesia. The successful delivery paved the way for PSATA to be introduced to the lighterage service provided by Harbor Star. Lighterage service, or the transport of cargo using a barge, is one of Harbor Star’s main service lines. In 2016, lighterage services amounted to 7.8% of Harbor Star’s total revenue.
