Clarification of News Report
This is in response to your query dated 10/16/2017 referred to the news article under Money-Go-Round column entitled “Panlilios lose part of Puerto Azul forest awarded by fired judge” published in the October 16, 2017 issue of The Philippine Star. The article reported in part that:
“The sprawling Puerto Azul resort of the Enriquez-Panlilio clan has lost 375 hectares of forest and foreshore land in Ternate, Cavite that had been awarded by a local judge.
The Supreme Court, in a decision released last week, ended one chapter in a decades-long legal battle that at one point pitted the Marcoses against the Enriquez-Panlilios, their former cronies, for the ownership of the 3,000 hectare resort.
The high tribunal ruled that the 375 hectares that the late Puerto Azul matriarch Trinidad Enriquez-Panlilio claimed she had acquired in 1976 from a local family have all along been part of the Calumpand Point Naval Reservation set aside by the US War Department in 1904.
