Penalty imposed on Hedcor Bukidnon for exceeding allowed outages per year
Background/Description of the Disclosure
Hedcor Bukidnon, Inc. (HBI) informed Aboitiz Power Corporation (AboitizPower) that, as part of the ongoing review and investigation conducted by the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) on Philippine power generation companies, the ERC promulgated a Decision dated June 15, 2022 directing HBI to pay the total penalty of Php8,380,000.00 for having incurred outage allowance days over the period January 3, 2021 to April 25, 2021 in excess of the ERC standard of 6.8 days of allowed outages per year. The case arose after torrential rains resulted in landslides that caused extensive damage to the run-of-river hydro units of HBI in Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon, which was the subject of an AboitizPower disclosure dated September 3, 2020. The extent of the damage resulting from the landslides was such that HBI required 102.1 days of excess unplanned outage days to bring each of the Manolo Fortich 1 Hydroelectric Power Plant’s Unit 3 and Unit 4 back online. HBI will be filing a Motion for Reconsideration seeking to overturn the ERC's Decision. HBI is part of the Hedcor Group and operates and maintains the Manolo Fortich 1 and 2 which are run-of-river hydroelectric power plants located in Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon. HBI is a wholly owned subsidiary of Aboitiz Renewables Inc., AbotizPower’s holding company for renewable energy projects
