PERI-PERI CHARCOAL CHICKEN, ON A ROLL WITH NEW LOCATIONS;
HITS 60TH STORE MILESTONE AND OPENS CLARK INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT OUTLET

Background/Description of the Disclosure

Peri-Peri Charcoal Chicken and Sauce Bar (Peri-Peri), a fast-growing casual dining restaurant chain in the Philippines, opened a string of new store locations, hitting its milestone 60th store. Peri-Peri is the second largest chain of Shakey’s Pizza Asia Ventures, Inc. (PSE:PIZZA), the leading fast casual restaurant chain and food service group in the country.

In a bid to establish Peri-Peri as one of the top players in the category, PIZZA has been ramping up store expansion for the chain, opening a string of new and innovative outlets in September. First acquired in 2019 with 29 stores, Peri-Peri now has over 60 outlets in the Philippines and counting.

Vicente Gregorio, PIZZA President and Chief Executive Officer said, “Over the last two years, we have witnessed significant growth from Peri-Peri, despite the headwinds brought about by the pandemic. We see opportunities to further its market penetration. For us, strategic expansion is key – having the right stores in the ideal locations with apt formats.”

The chain recently opened a new store at the Clark International Airport, the first airport outlet of Peri-Peri and one of the synergies brought about by the entry of the Gokongwei group as a strategic investor. The airport opened a new terminal building that is designed to accommodate approximately 8 million passengers a year, unlocking growth opportunities North of Metro Manila.

In September, Peri-Peri achieved its 60th store milestone, this time opening at the heart of Manila – Malate, a bustling town known for its local food scene and live music entertainment. The new outlet is a full store, designed to accommodate more diners with Manila demonstrating strong foot traffic recovery amidst an abating pandemic and heading towards the festive holiday season.

On a roll with its new outlets, the charcoal chicken chain opened its second full store with a fly-thru (drive-through), an innovative format located in BF Homes Aguirre in Paranaque City. Initially a Peri Jr., an agile small store format designed to penetrate markets via carry out, the outlet has been converted to cater to the growing demand in the area.

With a receding pandemic in the Philippines, mobility is up and foot traffic is back. Schools are expected to be 100% face-to-face in Q4, which is expected to further boost spending.

According to Gregorio, PIZZA is in the midst of gearing up for the holiday season.

“The fourth quarter is always a robust period. This year, we are expecting to see even more revenge spending in the coming months because of reunions and gatherings. It will be celebratory. We’re already preparing our stores for functions and expanding our footprint to seize this opportunity,” he said.
