Gentlemen:
This refers to your letter dated July 31, 2024, seeking clarification of the news article entitled “Refleeting a ‘No-Brainer’: PAL eyes multi-billion dollar fleet expansion” posted in InsiderPH (Online Edition). It was reported in part that:
“Taipan Lucio Tan’s Philippine Airlines (PAL) is considering a multi-billion dollar acquisition of new narrow and wide-body planes, which would more than double its fleet in the coming years.
PAL president and chief operating officer Capt. Stanley Ng said the flag carrier is mulling an order for 60-70 aircraft. Including existing orders, this could add up to almost 100 new planes.
. . . .”
The statement quoting the President and COO of PAL may have been misinterpreted considering that the acquisition of the planes has not been discussed by the Board. We cannot therefore confirm the above-quoted statement.
We trust that we have clarified your query on the said news article.
