Clarification of News Report
This is in reply to the Philippine Stock Exchange, Inc.’s (PSE) letter dated 28 September 2026 with respect to the news article entitled “NTC fines DITO, Globe, Smart P100,000 daily over poor mobile broadband services” posted in GMA News Online on 26 September 2026, wherein it was reported in part that: “The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) has issued show cause orders against DITO Telecommunity Corporation (DITO), Globe Telecom, Inc. (Globe), and Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart), imposing a P100,000 daily fine over poor mobile broadband services monitored in September 2026. In a press release on Saturday, the NTC said the fine will remain in effect until all identified service deficiencies are fully resolved. ‘The NTC has prepared Show Cause Orders against the three mobile network operators imposing a daily penalty of P100,000.00 per day commencing today until the identified service deficiencies have been fully rectified,’ the agency said. The NTC said its September 2026 speed tests showed no improvement in the mobile internet performance of the three telcos in the National Capital Region (NCR), compared with initial validations conducted during the first and second quarters of the year. The areas flagged for September revalidation were: - Globe: Makati and Quezon City . . . . In a report on ‘24 Oras Weekend,’ Globe expressed concern over the NTC’s statement. ‘We are concerned by the NTC statement, saying we have not improved services because the latest DICT report proves otherwise,’ Globe Chief Sustainability and Corporate Communications Officer Yoly Crisanto said. ‘We make use of the latest technologies, including satellites, to serve even the GIDA [Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas],’ she added. . . . .” We would like to clarify that as of this filing, we have not received the aforementioned show cause order from the NTC.
