Update on the disclosure dated 28 September 2026 regarding news reports on the National Telecommunications Commission’s planned sanctions against mobile network operators
Background/Description of the Disclosure
Further to our disclosure dated 28 September 2026 regarding news reports on the National Telecommunications Commission’s (“NTC”) planned sanctions against mobile network operators, PLDT Inc. (“PLDT”) wishes to provide the following update: Smart Communications, Inc. (“Smart”), PLDT’s wireless subsidiary, received on the evening of 28 September 2026 the Show Cause Order dated 24 September 2026 (the “Show Cause Order”) issued by the NTC in NTC Administrative Case No. 2026-022. The Show Cause Order relates to the NTC’s September 2026 mobile broadband performance validation in certain areas of Manila, Parañaque, and Pasig. It directs Smart to undertake corrective measures, submit a corrective action plan, and respond to the NTC. The Show Cause Order also provides for the imposition of a daily administrative fine of ₱100,000, commencing upon receipt of the Show Cause Order and until the NTC, through appropriate performance revalidation, verifies that the affected service areas have attained the applicable quality-of-service standard. Smart is reviewing the Show Cause Order and will respond to the NTC within the fifteen (15)-day period provided therein. PLDT will make the appropriate disclosures should there be any material developments.
