In compliance with the request for additional information received by Philex Mining Corporation (“Philex” or “the Company”) this morning, kindly see our responses to queries below.
The reported strike has commenced yesterday, Sunday, October 11, 2026, and is ongoing as of this writing.
So far, mining and processing operations have continued and remained unhampered. Initial reports saw production and output levels yesterday are at the usual without any drastic decrease, but we are still in the process of finalizing the daily production report for yesterday.
Absences to the workforce yesterday were recorded at thirty-five percent (35%), but not all absences were confirmed as strike participants. The absences were compensated by two long shifts implemented by both mine and mill, and managers and supervisors have augmented the workforce, including rank-and-file workers who reported for work and opted, on their own free will, not to join the strike.
The statement in the Philippine Daily Inquirer article (“400 workers of Benguet mining firm go on strike over wage dispute”, October 11, 2026) that “Around 400 underground and surface workers” went on strike is untrue. The Company recorded that there were only less than a hundred participants at the picket lines yesterday and this morning.
The statement also in the same article that “management issued a memorandum directing employees not to join the planned work stoppage” is false. No such memorandum was issued by company management, and it is something that the
Company will never do. Philex respects the right of workers to organize and to bargain collectively. We remain committed to resolving all issues through dialogue, in good faith, and within the framework of Philippine labor laws.
As part of efforts to reach a mutually acceptable resolution, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has invited the Company and the union to a conciliation-mediation conference before the Office of the Secretary, through the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Regional Operations, today, October 12, 2026, at the DOLE Building in Manila. The Company will continue to work with the union, the NCMB, and DOLE toward this end.
The Company will continue to operate in a safe, orderly, and responsible manner. Our commitments to our clients, investors and shareholders, regulatory agencies, banking partners, contractors and suppliers, host communities, and other stakeholders remain in place, and we have measures to ensure continuity at Padcal and across the Company.
Safety comes first. The safety and welfare of every employee, contractor, and community member at Padcal is our top priority and will not be compromised. All safety protocols, environmental safeguards, and mine management standards will remain in force.
The Company will likewise provide further updates as appropriate. |
