UnionBank of the Philippines (“UnionBank”) posted net income of P9.9 billion for the first nine months of 2026, up 53% compared to the same period last year. The Group sustained its performance on a quarter-on-quarter basis.
Topline growth remained strong with net revenues reaching P65.5 billion, up 8% year-on-year, driven by expanding margins and income from everyday banking transactions of the Bank’s growing retail customer base, which now stands at over 19.5 million. Consumer loans continue to comprise a significant portion of the Bank’s loan book, accounting for 62% of total loans – nearly triple the industry average.
Net interest income grew by 9% to P51.9 billion, supported by a 34-basis point improvement in net interest margin to 6.9%, among the highest in the industry. This was largely attributable to the 5% year-on-year increase in CASA deposits, growing in line with industry.
Non-interest income rose by 5% to P13.6 billion. Income from fees and commissions climbed 5% to P11.9 billion, supported by the Bank’s expanding customer base and growing Wealth business. Wealth and Bancassurance income increased 52% year-on-year, contributing 18% to total fees income.
The Bank maintained its focus on improving its cost-to-income ratio with disciplined operating expenses management and process improvement. As a result, operating expenses grew at a slower pace year-on-year compared to revenues, totaling P37.4 billion as of end of the third quarter.
Credit costs declined by P586 million year-on-year. Asset quality remained healthy with Gross and Net NPL ratios declining to 6.56% and 2.90% respectively, despite economic headwinds and NPL Coverage increasing to 75.77% vs 69.65% last year. Capital ratios remained well above regulatory requirements with CET1 at 13.7% and CAR at 14.6%. This provides the capability and resources to support future growth.
In line with its broader strategy to sharpen focus on core capabilities and businesses and continue leading toward NextGen banking in the Philippines, the UnionBank Board has also approved the plan to integrate the businesses of two subsidiaries, UnionDigital Bank, its digital bank, and UBX, its fintech subsidiary, into the parent Bank, subject to the required approvals from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas and other regulatory authorities.
UBX and UnionDigital customers will be kept informed throughout the process and will receive advance notice of any future changes during the transition.
Completion of the transaction remains subject to regulatory approvals, including those required by the BSP and other regulatory authorities.
