Manila Electric Company
| Manila Electric Company (MER) is a distribution utility registered on May 7, 1919, which operates under a 25-year congressional franchise under Republic Act (RA) No. 9209 effective June 28, 2003. The franchise of MER entitles the Company to construct, operate, and maintain the electric distribution system in the cities and municipalities of Metro Manila, Bulacan, Cavite, and Rizal and certain cities, municipalities, and barangays in the provinces of Batangas, Laguna, Quezon, and Pampanga. MER's franchise was renewed for another 25 years, or until 2054, under RA 12146. MER's franchise area covers approximately 9,685 square kilometers, reaching over 8.2 million residential, commercial, and industrial customers across 39 cities and 72 municipalities in Luzon. Its principal business is the distribution of electricity through its distribution network facilities in its franchise area.
